房客“The Bali Cottage The traditional Bali style open air cottage proved to be the highlight of our trip. The evening breezes kept us cool and the exceptional ficus tree the cottage is built around kept us shaded and the temperature difference was 10° at least from out in the sun. Our first impression of the 500 year old wood panels is definitely breathtaking and all are hand carved pieces. I found myself taking pictures from every angle and during different lighting for effect. Then there’s all of the individual artwork and pieces everywhere. The Bali Cottage has quite the personality and we found ourselves gladly anticipating the return ‘home’ every evening after our days out. Karen and Ron were great hosts, attentive to our questions and went beyond our expectations. There is parking for one vehicle in the driveway with a rock staircase leading to a well lighted pathway the directs you to the cottage. There is a very large outdoor lanai that was large enough for us to hold our impromptu (no guests)wedding after we had to run from the local beach due to a heavy downpour. There are comfortable chairs with ottomans on the deck with table with the exterior kitchen adjacent. A refrigerator, full size range and oven, microwave, coffee maker, large sink and counter provided ample space for our breakfasts and dinner, including a thanksgiving meal. The living room was very comfortable with several lounge chairs, sitting area and dining table and chairs. The bedroom has a nice covered four poster bed, armoire, nightstands and a countertop with dual his and her sinks. The exterior bathroom is very shaded and private, with a great outdoor shower set up, sitting chair and standard toilet facilities. We had no shortage of provided towels and linens during our weeklong stay and wanted for nothing. The lot is very private and 100 steps from the beach entrance. Our security was never an issue and I felt safe leaving our belongings there. My wife and I are so happy we chose the Bali Cottage for our stay, it was definitely the highlight of the trip. Addendum: I have read others reviews and I’ll add a few notes. Bali style means open air, translation: no glass windows allows for the free movement of air which is a GREAT benefit while it’s 80°+ in the sun and 70° at the cottage. No air conditioning is necessary and there are fans keeping the air moving. The area is quite secure and I’m very security conscious. I never felt in any sort of danger from anyone or anything, security is a non-issue. Critters: the geckos and salamanders eat pests and are welcome. There are spiders too, which are also beneficial. That’s why the mosquitoes aren’t an issue. One commenter said they’ve spent years in the jungle and this was too open for them. I have to add my own comment as I’ve spent my time in the jungle too and the wilds all over North America. If you’re afraid of local beneficial fauna(critters), then perhaps a luxury stay at a high rise in Oahu would be your best choice. If you’re a regular person who isn’t looking for a sterilized hospital-like environment while they enjoy their time on the Big Island, then I highly recommend the Bali Cottage. Our expectations were met and exceeded and we’ll have lifelong memories of our fantastic week spent there. Aloha🌴”
