This fabric jewellery-making workshop takes place in a cafe around the corner from my home studio in Maboneng. Here we’ll get to know each other over local drinks and tunes. We’ll also get acquainted with a proudly South African fabric called shweshwe, which I'll show you how to manipulate into bold and bright jewellery pieces - choose between a necklace, pair of earrings or bracelet. Whatever you make (2 max), you get to take! Great as a gift or a wearable souvenir. There will also be a variety of shweshwe jewellery from the Nomi Handmade range available for purchase as well as wrap-ready shweshwe fabric. Cash and card payments accepted. *New images still getting approved. You can check the original, 5-star rated JHB Workshops here: https://www.airbnb.co.za/experiences/67777
I'm a fabric jewellery designer, self-taught seamstress, and the founder of Nomi Handmade - a proudly South African textile jewellery brand that was established in September 2015. I'm especially drawn to the bright colours and patterns - my most favourite being those of shweshwe, a traditional South African fabric.
Local drinks, coffee, tea and water...
All the tools necessary for making our jewellery.
We'll meet outside my home studio, where I'll take you inside to a welcoming space especially prepped for our workshop. Here we will gather around a table set up for a morning/afternoon of crafting. Note - if more than 3 guests book, we will move the workshop to a nearby cafe called I Love My Laundry on Buitenkant.
