We will meet at Open Space studio in Hackney Wick, where I will introduce and explain this experience while we enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Then, out of a piece of leather of your own choice, I will teach you how to create a small cross body bag or personal item. We will select leather that suits your style and mood, and then start crafting. During the following two and a half hours, I will explain the basics of the leather craft and how to read a paper-cut pattern. To cut the leather, we will use graphic knives and metal rulers. To put the pieces together, we will use a light industrial sewing machine and a skiver, which will make your piece look like the real deal.
I was trained in the Netherlands and moved to London in early 2017. I have been teaching art and other subjects for many years, and I started my own bag label a year ago. The workshop will take place at Open Space Studios, a new space passionate about sharing and showcasing the knowledge of local craftsmen.
Cookies and sweets
Drinks I'll provide coffee, tea, and bottled water.
Equipment and materials I'll provide all equipment and materials, including a sewing machine and skiver.
We'll be at Green House, a workshop space in Seven Sisters in North London. The studio is shared by several architects, illustrators and craftsmen. The closest station is Tottenham Hale or Seven Sisters.
Leathercraft is not necessarily the messiest of crafts, but keep in mind you will be cutting leather, using a sewing machine, and working in a crafts studio.
