Origami 折り紙, from ori—meaning folding—and kami—meaning paper—is the Japanese art of paper folding. During this experience, we will alter a flat sheet of square paper and turn it into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. You will learn how to play with paper and discover how therapeutic it can be. I will teach you the traditional art of folding. A set of models will be prepared for you to choose from. Don't worry if you do not have the experience—you will learn it in this experience!
My mother is a major influence on me, and has been since I was young, as she's always creating something artistic, from washi eggs to lace crochets. There is always something new. It has always been an adventure to recreate and design crafts that I have seen, for my own curiosity and as gifts. My interests are in origami, kirigami, pop-up books; basically, anything to do with paper. I am always finding ways to challenge myself, and my latest challenge is to fold miniature origami—usually 75 mm x 75 mm. Folding makes me happy and I hope to be able to spread that joy to others.
Papers Chiyogami or modern-styled papers
We will meet at Bedok MRT station and I will take you to a cosy café I have selected for this experience.
