Stepping into our old folk house, you will feel as if you are traveling back into the Edo period. Within the 2.5 hours, you will learn about the history of the Edo period through food and traditional clothes. First, I will explain briefly about the history and culture of Edo, Then, it’s time to wear Kimono. Don’t worry, I will teach you how to wear it. It’s much easier than it looks. Once we are dressed, we will start cooking. In this experience, we will prepare the food like the Japanese once did. When we finish with cooking, we’ll be able to sit down and enjoy our meal! You will eat these Samurai meals on a special tray. Not only will you enjoy this meal, but will also learn the Japanese ways through traditional manners. While we enjoy our meal, I will talk a little about the relationship between the Edo period and Samurai’s. What happened to the Samurai’s? Are they still living? I’m excited to share with you about Japanese swords and Bushido as well. At the end of our meal, Samurai will appear in front of you, and you will get to enjoy a samurai sword performance! I will perform at noon and my co-hosts, Koshiro and Sho will perform at evenings. You will be surprised by the beauty of the Samurai sword performing art. I’m a teacher and performer who uses swordsmanship to get to the heart of ancient Japanese culture. With 13 years of experience and a 5th dan and black belt in the martial art of Tou-dou, I’m passionate about spreading the spirit of the samurai to the world. I also play the Japanese bamboo flute. Makoto grew up in Hokkaido, a town known for its seafood and where he developed a taste for sushi. He’s worked as a chef here in Japan and abroad. Through his love of food and my passion for history, we’re able share ancient Japan and its culture with our guests.
