In our traditional-style house you can experience the art of ink painting and seal carving. After learning the basic techniques and aesthetics of the art from the examples of old masters, you are free to explore the medium and unleash your creativity under the instructor's guidance. At the end of the session you can paint your final piece on display-quality paper and take it back home. Through this unique experience we expect you to gain some insight about how to express yourself with limited time and resources.
I have more than 10 years of experience in ink painting, mostly self-taught but also taught by a private teacher for one year. I also have a bachelor's degree in fine arts (painting) from Musashino Art University, one of the most influential art schools in Japan. We are located right between Osaka and Nara near Kashiwara station on JR Yamatoji Line (aka Kansai Main Line). I come to meet you at the station and we walk to our house for 10 minutes through a regular suburb. After we reach our traditional-style house we can have a cup of tea in our dining room if you would like and then move to one of the living rooms with tatami mats for painting.
For people staying in Kyoto: it is a 1.5 hour train ride from Kyoto so make sure you have enough time allocated for transportation.
