Our tour will begin on the farm with a welcome drink. While relaxing in a shaded part of the farm, I will present our community movement and teach you about how we grow our organic produce. After enjoying the welcome drink, we will walk along the community farm and learn about organic farming and the unique UNESCO- protected Subak System in Bali. During the farm tour, we will pick the ingredients that we are going to use during the cooking class for a true farm to table cooking experience. Once we arrive at the centre of the community, Mai Organic farm, we will drink a refreshing juice made with vegetables and fruit from our local farms. Following the drink, we will prepare six Balinese dishes, such as tuna sate and corn fritters. Students are able to participate as much or as little as they would like. We keep our class sizes small (max 8 people) to allow guests to be more involved in the cooking process and to provide better attention to each guest. After we finish cooking, we will teach you about our traditional offerings that we give to mother nature. Lastly, you will enjoy your meal in a tranquil gubuk (hut) with new friends from the tour. By supporting Mai Organic Farm, you are supporting a community of local farmers from Pejeng. Our movement aims to support the local farmers' and villagers' income while providing them with resources to improve their quality of life.
My name is Kadek. After 15 years of working in the hospitality industry, I decided to come back to my home village in Pejeng to create a movement to support local farmers. I love farming, cooking, and eating delicious healthy food . This is why I founded Mai Organic Farm. We are more than happy to invite you to come and learn more about our farm, our movement, and our history, and to taste delicious Balinese food that is cooked traditionally. You will visit a community of farms that are located in Subak Kana Banjar Panglan Pejeng, which is less than a 30 minute drive from the Ubud centre. Pejeng is the ancient capital village of the last remaining original Hindu-Buddhist kingdom in Bali before invaders from the Javanese Majapahit empire took over the island. It is the largest archaeological site in Bali and new artifacts continue to be discovered in rice fields, schools, and homes.
