On our paddle, we'll focus on the abundant marine and land creatures, the amazing natural history and rich cultural story of our really special area as well as kayaking technique and safety. I am highly versed in the countless animals we'll see on nearly every trip, from seals and sea lions, otters, jellyfish, eagles and other birds.. Even grey whales and orca every now and then! I'm an amateur geology buff - and the area is absolutely rich in astounding, very visible geologic history. A kayak is an amazing platform from which to discover "The Whidbey Formation" as well as many other Ice Age era features. Even when the animals are all napping, there is so much to discuss! Never paddled before? No worries! Beginners are absolutely welcome! Guests should be able to paddle at an easy to moderate pace for three to four hours with a break, covering six miles. We will stay close to shore at all times for safety - and better exploring! There is a strict individual weight limit of 240lbs as per the kayak manufacturers. I use double kayaks for guests; single kayaks may be available for more experienced paddlers. Start times and days may be flexible, just inquire!
I have been a sea kayak guide for four years and have paddled extensively throughout the Puget Sound region over the last decade-plus. My personal passion is long-haul, multi-day kayak camping trips, most notably a three-week, 200-mile solo trip from one end of Puget Sound to the other. I literally grew up on the water in Washington and have sailed over 25,000 miles - the equivalent of going around Earth! I spent two years as a deckhand on a deep-ocean research vessel, have raced sailboats.. I have a deep and powerful respect for the sea - you'll be very safe with me!

We will begin our trip from Clinton Beach Park, right next to the ferry dock. From there, we'll paddle north, close to the shore of Saratoga Passage for a few miles, take a quick shore break to stretch our legs and have a snack and head back.
