I want my guests to discover how to find peace in urban areas. It is amazing what nature has to offer if we just slow down and watch, and listen. We will hike a coastal bluff with awesome views of the Olympic mountain range. and descend to visit 2 beaches and a lighthouse. Near the lighthouse we will be able to view Mt Rainier, the Olympics, and Mt Baker (near the Canadian border 90 miles away) At low tide we will explore the ample tidal flats before climbing back through the forest. The climb is moderately strenuous. The final portion is 155 wooden stairs set into the hillside. The trail levels out and we hike through heavily wooded areas with both conifer and deciduous trees. Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock and Bigleaf Maple are abundant. 270 different bird species have been documented. Marine mammals might be seen. This park is transit accessible, and very centrally located, but the vast majority of users are locals from the immediate neighborhood. Most out of town visitors would not visit this park and I hope to make this terrific place accessible to people who would not otherwise find their way.
I am avid about nature, hiking and generally experiencing the beautiful outdoor opportunities of the Pacific NW. My love of the outdoors began when I was a graduate student in Arizona and I marveled at the Sonoran Desert. That was 36 years ago. Since then, I have visited dozens of National Parks, spent more than 60 nights below the rim of the Grand Canyon, river rafted the Grand Canyon 3 times, river rafted and hiked in Alaska, and solo backpacked in multiple locations at Mt Rainier and Olympic National Parks. I've also backpacked in Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Zion, Yosemite &King's Canyon NP
Water I will provide one bottle of water per guest.
