Kabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama with gorgeous colours and extraordinary spaces. It is similar to the art of Ukiyo-e—a style of Japanese woodblock print and painting from the Edo period depicting famous theatre actors, beautiful courtesans, city life, travel in romantic landscapes, and more. During this experience, we’ll go to Kabuki-za, where we'll view Kabuki drama. I can recommend and pick one or two acts from all the programs now playing. I will show you around Kabuki-za and then we'll watch the show. You'll be able to use an English caption device. After watching Kabuki, I will take you to the gallery in the Kabuki-za building, where you can pretend to be an actor or actress on the mock Kabuki stage. You'll be able to enjoy real stage settings and small tools used in a theatre. Alternatively, in case the gallery is closed, I will show you around in Ginza area. Beforehand we can discuss where you want to go, or what you want to do. <Attention> If the selected performance is the last show of the day, all activities will be moved to before the show, because most of the places in Ginza are closed after 21:00.
Tatsuko once had the chance to see a Japanese traditional play, and I've been fascinated by this Japanese art ever since. I left my busy career in information technology to become a promoter of traditional Japanese culture and a cultural coordinator to introduce our wonderful culture to others—and this includes Kabuki. I’m also a certified teacher of the art of Japanese incense to share this fragrant art and to help others relax. Fumiko and Kimiko are a licensed English tour guide and have been showing foreign guests around Tokyo. We are a big fan of Kabuki.
