Learning how to cook xiaolongbaos is an art—a delicious art. So I'll start with a demonstration before you go 100% hands-on making xiaolongbaos—Chinese steamed buns. More specifically, you will make xiaolongbao wrappers from the dough using a hand roller, remembering the techniques I shared. You'll practice making pork soup dumplings and other types of dumplings, which will be steamed in the kitchen. Then we will sit down to eat the xiaolongbaos made by you and the chef.
As a dumpling expert and founder of Dumpling Academy, I host classes based on this iconic food. I have hosted the dumpling-making show at the Reading Terminal Market as its guest chef for Chinese New Year. I was also interviewed about Chinese New Year by “What’s Cooking” on 1060 of the Philadelphia (CBS) KYW radio station. In early 2017, I was invited by Travel & Adventure show, to host a dumpling-making competition in the PA Convention Center. I also operate the Five Spice Tour of Philly's Chinatown, a cultural walking tour with dim sum tasting.
Xiaolongbao dumplings I will provide all ingredients to make dumplings.
Our XiaolongBao dumpling class will be held in Philly Chinatown. Chinatown is a bustling showcase of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean cultures and cuisines. Beyond the gilt-painted Friendship Gate are streets packed with restaurants and bars. Eclectic shops sell items that range from hand-stretched noodles to colorful trinkets. Event location: Arch St & 10th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107. The exact address will be disclosed prior to the class.
