Meeting point is at the train station Zaandijk-Zaanse Schans. We will have a 15 minutes walk to the Zaanse Schans and from the bridge you will have a spectacular view on the windmills of the Zaanse Schans. The duration of the tour is two and a half hours. I will show you the houses in beautiful Zaans green and you can take a look at the first store of Albert Heijn (1887). First we walk to the clog maker. You will see a demonstration making clogs/wooden shoes. Then we go to the cheese factory where a demonstration and explanation is given. At last we walk to the windmills and it is possible to visit "De Kat" paint mill, for example. If you want to visit another windmill, this is also possible. Entrance fee (not included) per windmill € 5.00 per adult, € 2.50 per child. Finally, I will take you back to the starting point of the tour, train station Zaandijk-Zaanse Schans.
Hello, my name is Diana. All my life I live near the Zaanse Schans. During my school days I cycled daily over the Zaanse Schans and I always saw enthusiastic tourists there. At that time I already thought it would be nice to share my knowledge and tell about the history of the windmills, the cheese factory, the clog maker and the houses on the Zaanse Schans. In other words, tell about the very rich history of the Zaan region. I am a registered ETOA (European Tourism Association) tour guide.
You can visit one or more windmill (s). Admission € 5.00 per person per windmill, children € 2.50 per person per windmill.
