Free Tree Society, a nonprofit in Kuala Lumpur, is based on very simple principles - we take seeds, we sprout them, we look after the seedlings, then we give away healthy little plants to the public for free! We invite you to our nursery, nestled beside a small patch of jungle, to learn about our cause and how you can have your own urban garden. The experience will begin with an introduction to Free Tree Society followed by a tour of the garden, nursery, and Green Academy. Our outdoor classroom is suitable for the young and young-at-heart and contains a wealth of information related to gardening, our environment and sustainable techniques (rainwater harvesting, composting, vermicomposting) with a special emphasis on environmental stewardship. As we walk through the garden, we may have a chance to sample some local tropical fruits, herbs and flowers! The tour will be followed by a hands-on practical demonstration of seed planting and plant propagation techniques.
I am the President and founding member of Free Tree Society. I'm also a hobby farmer and have an off-grid home. I believe that encouraging people to form a bond with nature is the cornerstone of solving climate change; you have to love the environment to want to save it. I'm happy to teach you about sustainable practices, our role in environmental stewardship and gardening in the tropics.
