Roll up your sleeves for 2 hours of volunteering in FareShare Abbotsford's kitchen (the largest charity kitchen in Australia). Along with other like minded socially conscious individuals - you'll have the opportunity to cook hundreds of nutritious healthy meals from foods that would have otherwise gone to landfill. The meals you cook will be later distributed by over 400 charities to folks 'doing it tough' around Melbourne and Victoria. Following the shift, we'll adjourn to a local pub for a well-earned drink for those who are interested in rounding off the evening and toasting our efforts together. During the evening we can discuss some of the issues that FareShare is helping to alleviate in our community, including reducing food waste and helping those who are facing food insecurity. We can also talk through ways participants can continue to support FareShare following their "hands on" volunteering experience.
I have been working with FareShare for over 8 years. After a career in Corporate Human Resources, moving across into the not for profit sector has been both refreshing and extremely rewarding. You'll discover, like I did, that FareShare is a magic place to work and volunteer. It is powered by people passionate about making a tangible difference - both in reducing food waste and helping others who are doing it tough. I am keen to share the FareShare experience with people who are discovering Melbourne and I look forward to being your host.
FareShare runs Australia's longest running, largest and most popular charity kitchen. We rescue, grow and cook food into nutritious meals for people in need. Our Abbotsford kitchen is powered by volunteers who cook 5000 free meals every day guided by experienced chefs. Our meals are then distributed to over 400 charities including soup vans, homeless shelters, and women's refuges.

We'll be gathering at the FareShare kitchen at 1-7 South Audley St, Abbotsford. Abbotsford is in the inner east of Melbourne and has a highly culturally diverse population. It is vibrant and bustling - although like many other places around Melbourne, it does face its own social challenges including poverty, homelessness and drug abuse.
最多可有10位年满18周岁的参与者参加。 Volunteers must be aged 18 or over. You will be on your feet for the whole shift. There are no seated jobs in our kitchen.
Please wear a cap to cover your hair (baseball cap, scarf, beanie, sunhat) and runners / sneakers (or closed in comfortable shoes) on your feet. We'll provide aprons. No sleeveless tops or singlets.
