This tour takes in part of the GibbstonTrail – an easy-going and picturesque bicycle track which forms part of the Queenstown Trail. After pick-up from your accommodation we take a short drive through the valley to our starting point on the Gibbston Back Road. We visit three of the area’s eclectic wineries where we have an opportunity to learn about the history and “personality” of each brand, and sample some of the unique wines produced in the region. Along the way, we explore the stunning valley landscape, learn more about the area, and stop for a picnic lunch (provided by Provisions Café, Arrowtown) in a picture-postcard spot amongst the vines. I will provide GT mountain bikes that have front suspension and large easy-rolling wheels, making for a comfortable ride. We will cycle 6 kms (4 miles) on quiet back roads and well formed cycle trails. These are relatively flat with a few small inclines but we can cycle at a leisurely pace and take breaks when needed.
As a keen traveller, mountain biker, foodie and wine lover I have managed to combine all my passions into creating this experience for you to enjoy. I grew up in Wellington and after a few years travelling around the world (including stints in Australia, Great Britain, and a few Canadian ski towns) I decided to settle in beautiful Queenstown. I am keen to share my passion for the outdoors and sustainable tourism, my love of fine wine, with visitors and locals alike. I am excited to showcase the amazing scenery and impressive wines being produced in the region.

This cycle tour is based on back roads and cycle trails of Gibbston, a wine region 30 minutes drive from Central Queenstown. The region is touted as having the greatest potential of all the ‘new world’ producing areas for the production of premium pinot noir, emulating the conditions (the “terrior”) of some of the world’s greatest viticultural regions. The pinot noir variety accounts for 70-80% of plantings in the area.
