Discover, strolling through East-Berlin's recreational outdoor-space along the river Spree, how humans perceive and use green landscapes in their city-life. While we explore some of Berlin’s most fascinating green spaces, I’ll help you appreciate city environments in a new way and give you insights on landscape-aesthetics and how they affect everyone of us! For that reason this experience is especially focused on the plant side of the urban environment. Public parks and recreational areas are the real substance of landscape architecture and our best indicator for a healthy social function of the city. Apart from showing how these landscapes are designed and built, I'll explain how we humans use these areas, as well as what and how we feel when we are in such landscapes, flooded with light and covered with many different plants. Finally, we’ll finish our experience by sharing a drink together at the old beergarden where we met. We'll talk about why and how urban green spaces and open water are so beneficial to us, and how those areas are linked to the residential areas and the "normal" city.

Since I can remember I am a landscape-enthusiast and a rebel against short-sighted infrastrukturalism. In love with the urban landscape of Berlin since I arrived here 14 years ago, I look forward to sharing my knowledge about landscape perception and landscape-usage with you and I am very glad to be able to show you some of the most beautiful green landscapes of the inner city of Berlin.
This walk into the vital green city-spaces will take us through the romantic Treptower Park with it's English style landscape-garden, perfectly suited for the light of summer, and further into the forest of Plänterwald to experience the flowering of the season. The nearby residential area with its socialist housing design is on our list too, as well as a calm island with light flooded shores and a great westward view into the city.
