Meet young guide dogs and their trainers, learn about their role and what the Guide Dogs charity does to prepare these beautiful animals for their vital role. Hear about what a guide dog means to their user, meet the trainers and their dogs and then have a go at being guided by a dog whilst blindfolded round an obstacle course. It’s a unique behind the scenes look at a working guide dog training centre and a chance to help socialise trainee dogs. The exact agenda may vary but the 2 hour experience will typically include the following... 1. Arrival, refreshments and welcome talk/ video 2. Kennels experience (to include hands on grooming demo, environmental enrichment activities and in depth tour of the kennels (and chance to get in and play with the dogs) 3. Guide Dogs trainer demo, including blindfold walk and chance to engage with the dogs 4. A chance to ask questions/ look in the shop

Your host will be Lisa Clayton. Originally from the USA, Lisa joined Guide Dogs in 2010 and is now the Community Fundraising Development Officer for the London Boroughs, looking after supporters in this area. Lisa says: “Not only do I get to see the dogs develop during their journey from puppy walking through training, I also get to see qualified guide dogs working with their owners and learn first-hand what a difference the charity makes. Many guide dog owners have said that their dogs are truly life changing and I am proud to be a small part of that.”
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. The charity Guide Dogs aims to help people with sight loss feel part of life, by providing the support to get out of their homes and be able to live their lives the way they choose.
