We will offer guests a behind-the-scenes arts experience with local experts and the satisfying chance to escape the crowds of tourists for an authentic afternoon among artists. Each tour is unique; within the 2-hour experience guests can expect five or six distinct moments such as: - tour of a private 17th century village home filled with painting and sculpture by local artists - an impromtpu artist talk by one of St. Paul's many local sculptors in front of his or her public artwork - visits to working artists' studios - a gallery tour and conversation with representatives of some of Europe's most respected galleries - access to interior spaces (artwork, frescoes and architecture) normally restricted from public view - invitation to an art opening Guests will visit spaces not otherwise open to the public, and will be welcomed for conversations with local arts professionals who don't typically have the time for deeper interaction with visitors.
Shannon & Maureen
We're sisters and American expats living in the heart of the village of St Paul de Vence, in a 19th century provencale row house. Shannon is an award-winning fiction writer who came to France four years ago on an artist's visa. Back in the U.S., Maureen was an arts teacher, the director of an art school and a museum curator. As residents and arts professionals we've built great relationships with local artists, gallery owners, architects and chefs who look forward to meeting you.
St. Paul de Vence, which now sees more than 2 million visitors per year, is the most-visited village in France second only to Mont St. Michel. Yet only a tiny percentage of these visitors have the opportunity to truly experience the place though an authentic artistic lens. Between our behind-the-scenes visits we will stroll the back streets and charming quiet alleys generally missed by tourists.
