We will visit Piha, New Zealand's beautiful, popular surf beach on the West Coast. It has hidden caves that most locals don't know about and tourists miss seeing. It is off the beaten track with no public transport. We will drive up the narrow, winding Scenic Drive through beautiful New Zealand bush, stopping at two incredible lookouts for photos with a "birds eye" view above the city. We'll spend about 30 minutes at the Arataki Visitor Centre gift shop and learn about NZ native birds, insects, and trees. Then we'll drive for about 20 minutes to Piha. We'll make one photo stop and I'll give you a brief insight into Piha's wonderful history. Next stop, Piha beach store for a complimentary drink and right after we'll explore the caves at North Piha, which are hidden by New Zealand Christmas Trees (Pohutukawa). We will walk the one-mile length of the beach and have the opportunity to climb the famous 'Lion Rock', or swim and sunbathe if preferred. Finally, we'll make our return trip to Swanson Railway Station. For the true "kiwi" experience we can pre-order and pick up some traditional 'Fish N Chips' on the return journey.
I am a New Zealand-born and bred "Kiwi." I grew up in West Auckland, and raised my 3 children here also. I have explored the amazing Piha beach most of my life. Most people, even many Piha residents don't know about the caves that I will guide you through. I can tell you the history of Piha and share my in-depth knowledge of the Waitakere Ranges. I am excited to share this incredible, memorable experience with you.

The famous surf beach at Piha has several interesting caves to explore—some are long and narrow, some wide, and one is behind a sand dune. We'll explore rock pools or just lie on the beach and relax. Climb the 'Lion Rock' to take photos. A detour to the Arataki Visitor Information Centre will be a bonus. Fantastic photo opportunities with spectacular scenic views are on the way. A cafe, dairy, and public toilets are accessible at Piha Beach.
