Hone your storytelling chops in this interactive workshop In an inclusive and playful setting, learn what it takes to captivate an audience with true stories from your own life. We'll help you tap into your memory to identify raw material for story development. You'll gain an understanding of narrative structure and storytelling technique while practicing and receiving feedback from a skilled instructor. Best of all you will meet people in completely new way, all while sharpening your public speaking and communication skills. Leave this two hour class with story ideas from your life, an understanding of what makes a story "work," and having heard the unique stories of other participants. By participating, you'll also visit some of D.C.'s most unique bars and hidden treasures.
Named the "gold standard" in storytelling by The Washington Post and nominated for the 2012 DC Mayor's Arts Awards for Innovation in the Arts, Story District reaches an audience of more than 10,000 annually through the production of more than 25 performances, ongoing adult education classes, and custom trainings for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. We value storytelling as a space for people to listen and be heard, embrace different perspectives, examine their own lives, and explore what it means to be human.
Story District’s mission is to train and showcase storytelling talent in the Washington, DC, area and to be an exemplar of transformative autobiographical story performance as a way to enrich an understanding of the self and the world, build community, promote compassion, and highlight our shared humanity. .

We will explore different neighborhoods in Northwest DC including Park View, Petworth, Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, Logan Circle, Shaw, and Adams Morgan. The venue will change, so see each listing for where we'll meet on what date.

An open mind and a postive attitude
Be prepared to share stories with other participants in pairs. A couple volunteers will have the opportunity to share in front of the whole group and get feedback from the instructor (if they want).
