Before the brew session, we will cover beer recipe design with consideration for each of the four main components of beer: water, hops, barley, and yeast. You can choose to select the style of beer that we brew for the session. During the brew session, in addition to making the beer, we will discuss equipment, brewing process, biology, and brewing theory. I will also lead you through the components that make up different craft beer styles. We will go from raw ingredients to the first stages of beer in a 4 hour period. You will be able to do as much or as little of the process as you would like during the brew session. The course will be generally structured, but it will be catered to you and your interests. You will decide what you learn in addition to the basics of homebrewing.
I've been doing my part to participate in the craft beer revolution. I've found that the laboratory skills that I developed as a scientist are useful for even greater good: homebrewing. I love sharing my knowledge of brewing and biology with fellow curious minds, and I'm thrilled to be able to de-mystify the entire process. During our brew session, I will provide all the basic knowledge you need to begin homebrewing your very own delicious beers. At the very least, when we are finished you will be able to impress your drinking pals with your understanding of how beer is made!

We will be hanging out exclusively in the brewing area in the street level garage. We will keep the garage door that opens onto the street open during the entire session. We also have internet and cell phone service in the brewing area.
A great attitude and a thirst for knowledge of craft beer and the brewing process
We will not be able to drink the craft beer that we are making... fermentation usually takes 2-3 weeks! We will have other samples available. You have the option of returning to taste our beer.
