We will start this tour at a place where the guillotine, a gruesome accessory of the French revolution, took its toll with thousands of victims’ severed heads. This will be the opportunity to learn and “revive” this horrendous episode of French history called the Grand Terror. At the end of a short informative walk on the guillotine’s bloody trail will be revealed our Grail: The eeriest Parisian spot ever where some victims of the guillotine are still buried, a fairly sized private estate with a countryside touch to it. It shelters among other surprises an impressive old cemetery with emblazoned graves of the wealthy centuries-old nobility. This is also there that peacefully rests the heroic marquis of Lafayette, hero of the U.S. war of Independence, whose deeds influenced America's destiny. Amidst the eeriness of this place, you’ll realize how French and Americans are closely connected within each other’s past. More than getting a history course, you will truly experience a meaningful moment with a passionately informative host. Oddly, you’ll come out of this experience with an uplifting sense of bliss, of peacefulness, of awe!
As a pure Parisian and a professional guide for over 6 years, I love to show my city in its diversity from the standpoint of a true local. Understanding the rich and complex history of Paris and France, especially during the French revolution, is a great way to have the keys of our contemporary times as well. While you may have (or will) visited other major highlights of the revolution, you will realize with this experience that History with a big H hides its details in seemingly insignificant unusual places too, and that life keeps on unfolding… After having spent 11 years in the U.S., I am culturally bilingual and well-versed in the American mindset. Knowledgeable and curious by nature, I always find exciting to meet new people from all over the world with all kinds of personalities. My motto is: Feel and be welcomed, make friends!
Paris abounds with unsuspected highlights away from mainstream areas. These confidential discoveries located in less visited and more homey neighborhoods bear a huge historical heritage. This is where your host will take you. You'll explore a fascinating side of history, made of Terror and Idealism. Within the oddity of the place and the quirkiness of the situation, you’ll realize how close and connected you are to our common past.
