We'll hop on a bus—like the locals do—from the MRT Station and then see the sights of busy Bangkok along the way to our destination. After a few minutes, a hundred street food stalls at our awesome local food market will amaze you and you'll want to try everything along the roadside. We'll begin with a live demonstration of “Malai Dok Mai”—a Thai flower garland before we eat a must-try appetizer called “Kanom Krok"—a coconut pancake—and pork satay with peanut sauce—so yummy. As a local, you can't miss out on eating “Khao Rad Gaeng”—a ready-to-eat Thai curry dish with rice, of which you'll pick one out of twenty choices. This is the typical Thai food culture. Please clear the photo storage on your mobile phone as you will want to take pictures and videos of the scene around you. We will enjoy a variety of food tastings, including Som Tum—papaya salad, Yum Khao Tod—crispy rice and meat salad, Pad Thai—stir-fried rice noodle dish, local sausage, and more. We'll end with a dessert of either ginkgo nuts in coconut juice or black sesame dumplings in ginger tea, or fresh cut tropical fruit. Here's to good health and non-stop eating of good food in a truly local mood. No tourists around you!!!
Travel and food make me enthusiastic. I was a creative editor of several interactive travel magazines and websites. I love to explore the "real life" in the markets and learn about culture from the vendors and shop houses. The local market is a living museum that presents history, culture, and people, and I'd like to inspire you with this local experience and guide you on getting good pictures. It will be a time to share Thailand's gastronomic treasures with the world.
Food tastings, main dish. Dessert I'll provide Kanom Krok, pork satay, Khao Rad Gaeng, Som Tum, Yum Khao Tod, Pad Thai,…
Local bus transportation I'll provide a round-trip bus ride to and from the market.
We'll meet at Exit 4 at the Lat Prao MRT Station and go to a local market that's more than 40 years old and unknown to most tourists. It's not far from the popular Chatuchak Market.
