Guests will meet me in Fawnskin and I will take you on an off-road tour into the San Bernardino Forest. After off-roading back into the mountains behind Fawnskin, I will lead you up the dirt fire road to Butler's Peak, where you have some of the very best views in all of Big Bear. Butler's Peak is a fire lookout tower that sits at over 7,000 feet and the views are just phenomenal from this birds eye vantage point. This hike does have some elevation gain, but is what I would consider a moderate hike. Dogs are welcome on this hike but I would recommnd they be on leash as this is an area with rattlesnakes.
I've been off-roading and exploring the wilderness on foot and by mountain bike for the last twenty years. As your outdoor adventure guide in the San Bernardino Mountains, I know all the prettiest spots in the Big Bear area for hiking and outdoor fun. I love photography and photo editing as well, it's one of my many passions and I will take many posed and candid shots of you and your friends having a great time enjoying our national forest. (Photos will be emailed to you after the hike)
Off road travel in my SUV
We will off-road from Fawnskin on the north side of the lake into the national forest. It’s about a 5 mile drive to where we park and hike up the fire road, enjoying some of the best views in all of the Big Bear Valley. We will take a break once we reach the lookout tower to enjoy the amazing views. THe hike is about five miles round trip to the fire lookout station and back.
Sunscreen, hiking boots, water, snacks
This is a moderate hike but we will go as slow or fast hiking speed as you want.
