体验内容

On this 90-minute walking tour, we’ll make our way along
the historic railroad tracks, sidings, and warehouses as we explore how the railroad changed Santa Fe when it arrived in 1880 - and how this vibrant arts and historic district has become Santa Fe's "living room."

We'll gather under the Railyard's 40,000-gallon water tower to learn about how the railroad came to the Southwest and connected the region to the rest of the country - and opened it up to tourism. You'll learn about Prohibition-era brothels and the murder of the chief of police, and how the Railyard evolved from a transportation hub into an arts and cultural center.

Our walking route covers about 1 mile on sidewalks and features two historic depots, warehouses, a slough of railroad buildings dating to the 1880s along Guadalupe Street, the Santuario de Guadalupe - the oldest shrine in the United States - and the historic lumberyard of the Sanbusco center (now New Mexico School for the Arts), which supplied building materials for the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos during World War II.

Bring your camera and good walking shoes. The Railyard has considerable urban charm, numerous art galleries, restaurants, and hosts the city's farmers market. Those with time and thirst afterward can join me for a beverage (cash bar) at one of the many fine establishments in the Railyard.

Hi. I'm Garrett.

I am an author, historian, and tour guide in Santa Fe via Washington, D.C. I came to know the Railyard as I researched New Mexico's Prohibition history, and especially from the notables who traveled to Santa Fe by train. One of those visitors was author Willa Cather and her partner Edith Lewis, who visited in 1925 and 1926 as they explored the ideas that became "Death Comes for the Archbishop," which I'm writing a book about.

I love Santa Fe's Railyard so much that I live close enough to be awoken by the Railrunner commuter train every morning. I can't wait to share the Railyard's hidden gems with you!

From the first 5 minutes of the tour, I realized it was going to be great! I've spent a lot of time in Santa Fe, but discovered how much I didn't know. Loved learning historical facts as well as architectural designs. I highly recommend the tour both for Santa Fe residents as well as visitors.

The tour is definitely a nice break from shopping, galleries and museums, although you can do that right after the tour. Garett has a wealth of information on the history of Railyard, its famous visitors, and its architecture. He also has fascinating stories to tell. Garett clearly loves to share his knowledge and loves meeting people. I definitely recommend the tour to anyone with a curious mind.

Garett was very knowledgeable and friendly. But the weather did not help as it was rainy and very cold for the time of year
