We'll meet at North Bay Letterpress Arts, a non profit co-op located next to a beekeeping supply store in Sebastopol, CA. It is situated amongst a number of great restaurants and small shops. We'll say hi, and get started! You'll learn how to set metal type, and print using a Kingsley hot foil stamping machine used in the 1950's to personalize items from letterhead to leather goods. You'll choose the color of foil you want and I'll supply the cards and envelopes. Explore the print shop during your stay, and become inspired with the beautiful craft of printing!
I'm a long time maker who's looking to share the satisfying experience of printing your own paper goods. I believe the time-slowing craft of printing can provide therapeutic effects on the soul. I've studied printmaking and photography at Santa Rosa Junior College after taking a break from my online shop where I made hundreds of hand bound books, mostly for weddings.
North Bay Letterpress Arts was formed as a nonprofit group in the spring of 2015. It grew out of the work of Eric Johnson’s Iota Press, which has had a public shop in Sebastopol since June 2009. Iota began at first with the idea of teaching the craft of old-style printing, and exploring its range for making books and artistic prints. The present shop of 1600 sq ft, houses 8 presses and 200 cases of type, with a dozen active printers.
