A day on the water fishing in the lowcountry is like no other. Obviously, our goal is to go out and catch fish, but a trip with Capt. Caleb is going to be much more. Your adventure will take you to a side of Charleston that is truly spectacular. Along the way you will enjoy a multi-sensory experience — the amazing sights, sounds, and smells of the lowcountry marsh — beautiful sunrises and sunsets, vibrant spartina grass, soaring birds of prey, the heckling cackle of marsh hens, the wondrous power stingrays and grace of dolphins swimming through shallow water. Once we arrive to our first fishing spot, I will begin push-poling the boat through shallow water as we look for fish. Most often, we will be in pursuit of redfish “tailing or pushing” through the flats. Other species we might see and cast to include: sharks, sea trout, triple tail, jack crevalle, and tarpon. Saltwater sight fishing requires teamwork, good communication, patience, skill and a little bit of luck. Catching your “first fish” or “big one that eludes us all” is truly a very special moment.
I am is a licensed USCG captain with over 20 years of fly fishing experience. In 2012, an engineering job moved me to South Carolina, where my passion for fishing and being on the water led me to exploring the inshore marshlands of the lowcountry. For the past 6 years I have worked hard putting in countless hours to unlock some of the secrets our amazing fishery has to offer. With my passion for fishing, professional experience guiding, and knowledge of our local waters I will provide a most memorable experience exploring the amazing sight fishing opportunities the lowcountry marsh provides.
Rods, reels, tackle
There are four boat ramps that I typically like to launch from to get to the waters we will be fishing. Generally I like two different areas depending on the wind, tides, and my clients fishing experience. One of the areas I like to fish is from Charleston harbor to the back or the Wando river. The other area I like to fish is from Isle of Palms up the intercoastal waterway to Cape Romain.
