Most visitors to Barcelona know about the museums dedicated to Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Miró. But there’s much more to the city’s creative community than these three giants of the 20th century. Today’s contemporary art scene is broad and eclectic—and sometimes hard for outsiders to access. As a local artist with years of experience, I know where the hard-to-find galleries and underground spaces are. Our trip will depend upon what shows are happening that day. I’ll take you to some of my favorite galleries and introduce you to the gallery owners and artists. You’ll leave with a better sense of the city's current cadre of established and emerging creatives.
After meeting in front of MACBA, Barcelona's contemporary art museum, we'll make a plan for hitting up the best galleries and exhibits in town before heading off to our destinations. We might even swing by an invite-only exhibit in an underground gallery.
