Zappata Romana founded in 2012 promotes the realization of urban gardens in Rome. We have a mission: empower the spontaneous initiatives of Roman citizens who care about green urban spaces and activate themselves for the common good reclaming abandoned areas. Zappata Romana created and maintains the Hortus Urbis, an educational garden in the Appia Antica Park.
We'll be in our community garden near the sacred Almone river in the Appia Antica Park where history and nature blend together in the first garden with ancient Roman plants in Italy. The recovered abandoned site hosts plants selected from those quoted by Columella, Pliny the Elder, Cato and Pompei.
