We will begin our classes with teaching everyone how to make pasta from scratch: ravioli, spaghetti, tagliatelle! We provide also a vegan alternative with dough without eggs. You will learn how to do 3 types of long pasta, 3 of short, and 4 different kind of ravioli. You can take this knowledge with you to your own kitchen with a copy of our recipes for you. Last but not least: bring your own bottle of wine! Cheers! At the end you’ll can taste your handmade pasta!

Hi everybody! I’m Lucia, head chef and co- owner of Mattarello Cooking lab, and me and my husband Francesco are both pasta makers. I start making pasta from when I was six and I never stop. In italy I studied law but I soon realized that food is my passion and in 2010 I invest my scholarship to open my first little bakery-pasta shop and then another one bigger in the center of Milan. In 2018 I moved in San Diego with Francesco and we really would like share our passion with you!
We will conduct our classes in our beautiful bistro in the heart of historical Gaslamp quarter in San Diego. We will offer the experience while the restaurant will be closed to the public: in this way we can stay focused on the lessons and offer best experience possible.
Our family of four enjoyed making pasta together. Francesco was very knowledgeable and personable. However, as a trained chef, I was turned off by the fact we had to wash our hands in a bathroom rather than in a kitchen or a dedicated prep sink. I also felt like there should have been a pasta machine for every two people. Having only two pasta machines for nine people was really slow. Expect to eat after you leave. You get to sample five of the raviolis you prepare, but that’s it. It would have been nice to have had bread with olive oil accompanying your pasta. This seems quite doable since you already are bringing your own wine. Lastly, plan to get there early. Parking is difficult. We spent nearly 20 minutes trying to find parking until finally one of us dropped off the other three and the individual parking the car missed 15 minutes of the class continuing to try and find parking. All in all we walked away informed but unsatisfied.

This experience was not only exceptional, but delicious. We enjoyed learning how to make ravioli....would do this again! The detail and attention you gave to each couple was nice. Your tomato sauce for the ravioli was to die for as well. Look forward to going to your sauce class. Inspired us to buy the tools to make pasta at home. Thank you!!
