We start the morning with an orientation over sweet mint tea. As new comers to Sefrou there are a few of my favorite fun facts I'd like to share as well as a brief on the relationships build over the years with the local community. A get to know you half-an-hour makes guest to artisan connection all the more authentic; having had some tips and teasers to get you curiosity heightened and understanding clarified even more. Delve into the artisans workshops and have the chance to speak to the makers, one-to-one. Discover the techniques, skills, stories and personalities that lie behind the doors and try your hand and pick up a tool . Over the space of a morning you can meet a handful of personalities that reveal a variety traditional crafts, generously sharing their knowledge and skills and in doing so, passing on Sefrous heritage. The visit ends in a local restaurant in the heart of the artisan quarter. Clean local food is consumed as we round up and follow up the visit with some added insiders perspectives.
Originally from the UK, I am the founder of an Sefrouian organization that brings together creative communities with art at its core. The heart of the old medina is also what I consider home . 7 years ago, I started working with the artisan-ship, highlighting their skills and stories, co-organizing development projects, connecting artists and designers with the crafts people, facilitating artist residencies and exhibiting the works of both local crafts people and guest artists. I care for what Morocco is in danger of losing, the individual livelihoods and creations of the artisan-ship.
