This is an incredible hike in the Totara Park area, only 25 km from Downtown Auckland. We will be hiking through lush native forest, where over 150 native plant species, and many bird species, flourish. The hike will include visiting a stream, a waterfall and a secret look out. I will share with you secret insights, information, and the history of the area as well as including information about our native plants and birds. When we have completed our forest walk we will walk to a lookout on the outside of the Park, where we often have visibility of around 50 kilometres in most directions. Our arrival at this lookout is timed so that you can enjoy the wide views and then the sunset. If the weather is fine, we will witness a magnificent sunset over the Manukau Heads, 35 kilometres to the West. Shortly after sunset we will walk for 5-10 minutes back to our cars. Or, if you prefer you can easily arrange an Uber or taxi to take you to the Manukau Train Station or back to town. The experience is available in most weather conditions, but if it is very rainy parts of the forest path can become muddy. For your safety, we reserve the right to vary the route within the park.
I have lived in Auckland for most of my life. I am an experienced hiker and outdoor adventurer. Being outside in ancient forests, or enjoying a beautiful sunset, brings me immense joy. I have hiked extensively in the North Island of New Zealand and I am knowledgeable about the natural world, including botany and astronomy. In the last few years I have enjoyed discovering some of Auckland City's little known amazing hikes. In this experience I will be sharing the joy of some of these little known places with you. If you want to book this experience for a different time please inquire.
