1. First thing you have to learn about Romanian cultural environment is the way we eat. I will cook for you and teach you the secrets of the best Romanian dishes with the freshest ingredients, outdoors, in my yard, in a cosy family environment. This way, you can have a feel of the authentic local dishes not of a "traditional" food in a "traditional" restaurant... ughhh! 2. I will then play some of the most ancient instruments (traditional flutes) that you would only hear in the mountains played by Romanian sheperds :). Music gives the measure of the people's cultural life. Let's learn how to play together. 3. We shall have a nice walk throughout the city as I will be your local guide through this small but well hidden city - the first capital of medieval Romania - and nearby villages. There are architectural wonders to be discovered, small and large, old churches and monasteries, and beautiful people, all well hidden for tourist eyes. In the traditional hillside villages, we will get to know some true peasants that still live on what they produce.
Ovidiu & Ioana
I graduated Law School in the University of Bucharest and I have been practicing law since then. I am father of 3 tiny young girls that need teaching and a happy colorful life. The knowledge and true passion for Romanian culture, history and religion help me and my wife to find our way and meaning we need in life. I am not a historian, nor a theologian or an ethnologist but I have explored the realities of this country, the life of the simple people. I'd like to present and have you taste not only the best Romanian dishes but also our finest music followed by an interesting sightseeing tour!
Typical Romanian dishes. I usually prepare food outdoors my way, to make you understand what an authentic meal feels like.
Romanian homemade drinks like wine and ţuica or palinca will be on the table.
If you are a backpacker, we can move along with my personal car if the distances are too long.
We will first cook some truly traditional local dishes in my backyard while listening to some of the instruments - traditional flutes, that I play. Then, with a full belly :) we will have a hike around the city to understand people's lives up there in the hillside or have a tour in the city to see one of the most interesting architectural wonders of the byzantine world: XIV (14th) to XVI (16th) cent
