The boretide is a tidal phenomenon in which the leading edge of the incoming high tide forms a wave of water that travels up a narrow inlet against the direction of the current. Riding the boretide is an epic experience that calms the nerves and slows down time. You will begin the experience by meeting a local from the TA Surf Crew to get outfitted with equipment. We will give you an orientation to prepare for the ride and to know what to expect, including safety talk, how, where and when to line up and the do’s and don’ts. We will shuttle you and the boards during the whole experience. We will watch the wave pass to get a visual on how the water moves. Then we will drive to the surf spot where we will paddle out to the prime location for catching the wave relative to your ability. We will be right beside you before and after to answer any questions you have. No guarantees on catching the wave, but ride times could be up to 10 minutes and up to 1 mile long. After the wave passes we will paddle back to shore.
The TA Surf Crew members include Kayla, Guy, Pete, Lily & Murphy. With over 10 years of collective bore tide surfing knowledge, we are able to provide a safe and fun wave experience. The wave is created by the extreme tidal swing flowing up the Turnagain Arm and happens every 12 hours during particular phases of the moon. America's longest wave is always changing, but average rides are around 5 minutes and 3 miles. This experience gives you the opportunity to be in the right place at the right time to surf a unique and once-in-a-lifetime wave.
Wetsuit Booties Board (paddle or SUP) Leash Paddle (if applicable)
The Turnagain Arm and novelty wave (bore tide) is almost 200 miles away from open ocean and normal surfable swell. The Turnagain Arm is located between Kenai Pennisula and the Chugach Mountain Range. The views include glaciers, 5-6,000 ft mountain peaks, and waterfalls. The Turnagain Arm is home to Hooligan, Belugas, Salmon, Eagles and more.
