On mondays, when most of the museums are closed, you can choose to go a little further in your Oporto itinerary and visit one of europe's biggest open air market "Feira de Espinho" This market has changed so little through the years that this is a real go back in time experience. If you want to meet the real Portugal this is the place to visit (even the politicians like to come here when it´s election time!). The most authentic people you will find here, as you will watch and participate in the bustle of selling and buying all the goodies you can imagine. You’ll love the buzz, smells and sounds, but most of all the people. They’re like family, and the market is their home. You’ll get a true feel of this community and in addition to the picturesque environment, you can do extensive range shopping, from clothing to ceramics, crafts to footwear, fresh or floriculture. As a grandson of a butcher family that was in the market for decades, I spend my childhood in this bustle and that's why I think this is a must have experience if you are visiting Portugal. After the visit we will lunch in a restaurant founded in 1930. Pretty much untouched since then we will eat true homemade dishes
I am a true "Homem do Norte" (expression that literally means man of the north!). Although I travelled a little bit around the globe, I always return to my little piece of heaven and that´s why I want to showcase my special region to you. Although I started my career in design and photography, for the past 10 years I was dedicated to tourism as a surf teacher and also as an airbnb host. All my guests ask me for some authentic and fun experiences and now you can also enjoy them. So come along with me and explore the North of Portugal like a local and leave with the best memories!
We will have a complete lunch menu with appetizers/soup, main dish, dessert, drink and coffee.
We will meet at Espinho train station (20 min train ride from Porto) in the morning. From there we will follow the locals with their strollers and explore all the corners of this market. We'll stop as many as you wish to make some shopping or photos. In the end of the morning we will go to the restaurant and enjoy a typical portuguese meal with great wine recipe. After the meal a little sightseeing walk while escorting you to the train station.
Feel free to contact me to advise me for any special need or request or if you have any doubt about the journey (timetables, routes and places to visit).
