This is a 2 day and one night overnight backpacking and fly fishing experience in New York's Catskill Mountains, no experience or special gear necessary! We will pick you up in the NYC area and make the approximately 2.5 hour drive to the trailhead. We'll make a the 2-5 mile trek to our campsite, where we'll set up camp and have lunch, followed by guided fly fishing for native brook trout in the pristine Catskill creeks and guided bushcraft and campcraft instruction. At the end of the day, your guide will serve our 3 course dinner menu and we can trade fish tales around the fire. The following morning you’ll awake to fresh brewed coffee (or tea if it’s your preference) followed by breakfast (or brunch if you’re a late sleeper). Once we break camp, more fishing, hiking, or other side activities are available. When we’re done for the day, we’ll hike back to the vehicle and bring you home to NYC.
Freestone launched its guide service operations in 2015 to help New Yorkers escape the city and discover unique and authentic outdoor experiences. we focus on overnight backpacking trips that combine instruction in the traditions of Adirondack outdoorsmanship and Catskill fly fishing. Greg has been a Brooklyn resident for over 15 years and spends his free time on solo bushwack trips to the backcountry. Owen has been an avid fly fisherman for over 30 years, and has called the trout streams of the Catskills his home water for the last 15 of those years.
