This fabric jewellery workshop takes place in a cafe around the corner from my home studio in Maboneng. Here we’ll get to know each other over local drinks and tunes. We’ll also get acquainted with a proudly South African fabric called shweshwe, which I'll show you how to manipulate into bold and bright jewellery pieces - choose between a necklace, pair of earrings or bracelet. Whatever you make (2 max), you get to take! Great as a gift or a wearable souvenir.
Please note - the original workshops were hosted in Cape Town, but I have since moved. So they are now hosted in Maboneng - an arts and culture hub in Johannesburg.
If you're headed to Market on Main, this workshop is the perfect nearby, Sunday activity!
There will also be a variety of shweshwe jewellery from the Nomi Handmade range available for purchase as well as wrap-ready shweshwe fabric. Cash and card payments accepted.
No time, but still want a souvenir? You can also shop shweshwe products at nomihandmade.co.za. Just select local drop-off as a shipping option and I'll hand deliver your order!
Prefer a private workshop in the comfort of your own space? Feel free to book a private group and I'll come to you! Just be sure to pop me a message with the location I'm going to...
Looking for something unique for a bridal shower, team building or birthday? I've also hosted my fair share...simply pop me a message.

I'm a fabric jewellery designer, self-taught seamstress, and the founder of Nomi Handmade - a proudly South African textile jewellery brand that was established in September 2015. I'm especially drawn to the bright colours and patterns - my most favourite being those of shweshwe, a traditional South African fabric. Should you run out of time to join me at a workshop, you can stock up on Nomi Handmade products at the following locations...

I had such an amazing time at the experience. The jewelry is awesome and it is such a great Souvenir or gift to bring home. Thandie is a great teacher and a lovely and interesting person to talk to. I would recommend everybody to do the great workshop 😊

I was extremely excited about the opportunities to learn how to make African inspired jewelry. Thandie was amazing when it came to giving instructions on how to complete the project. We laughed and talked the entire time and I even bought some additional jewelry pieces. This is most definitely an experience I would recommend. Thandie is beautiful inside and out!

What a privilege to learn how to make this beautiful jewelry from an expert in the field. I really appreciated Thandie's skill in her craft and her generosity in sharing. I will treasure the bracelet and earrings that I made. They will be a reminder of a highlight of my time in Johannesburg. Already, I have received many compliments on the pieces that Thandie helped me make.
