Join a tour exploring the long and dark history of spies in Vienna. We will explore the heyday of international intelligence services of the cold war and dive into history to lern about the scandals that shook imperial Vienna on the brink of the great war. How is the Viennese coffee house tradition linked to a spy and how did the Romans encode their messages?
Over 2 hours we’ll untangle the web of international diplomacy, spies and informants who didn’t always do it for ideological reasons but sometimes just to survive. Retracing bold plans to be one step ahead of the enemy and witnessing personal tragedies that are still part of the game.
We learn why Vienna is still the secret capital of espionage while walking trough Viennas imperial heritage. We’ll find signs hidden in plain sight telling us the story of the darkest days in our nations history.
Best of all, we finish our tour with a cold beverage in a 1950ies bar that was once built for US soldiers of occupied Vienna.

Hi I’m Jascha, I’ve been a state certified tour guide since 2017 and am the founder of Hidden Vienna Tours. I was born and raised in Vienna so I know this city like the back of my hand and yet it manages to surprise me every day.

We set off at the Russian war memorial that holds many secrets, passing by the stunning baroque church of Saint Charles and the State Opera House on our way to the imperial winter palace. We learn about Roman infiltration methods at the ruins of Vindobona before moving on to Café Central and further on to Volksgarten where we end at a bar.

- Do this tour. We did several experiences to learn about Vienna and this was easily the best. Jascha is an engaging storyteller and we came away with an understanding of the history that has shaped Vienna, not just a list of facts. He answered all questions thoroughly and was exceedingly helpful in recommending good food. He has several experiences and if we had more time in the city they would be top of our list of things to do.
- Vielen Dank für diese tolle Tour durch Wien. Ich war - corona-bedingt - die einzige, aber Jascha hat sich dennoch für mich viel Zeit genommen. Jascha hat sich offensichtlich sehr viele Gedanken gemacht, wie er die Tour aufbaut und über 2 Stunden interessant und abwechslungsreich gestaltet. Gebäude und Geschichten hat er sinnvoll verknüpft und an passenden Stellen auch zusätzliches Material gezeigt. Auch für Menschen wie mich, die keine Geschichtskenner sind, ist die Tour empfehlenswert. Anspruchsvoll, aber nicht überfordernd.
