Let's play tradional instruments, Koto harp plus shamisen guiter and enjoy tea ceremony with high-quality Matcha and seasonal Japanese sweets! The traditional Japanese stringed instrument, the koto, is renowned for both its healing tones and elegant shape. During this workshop, you will have a chance to play the koto. After playing the koto, you will be served matcha green tea and seasonal Japanese sweets in a tea ceremony by a master from the Urasenke tea school. After enjoying the tea and sweets, you will also have chance to play Shamisen, Japanese traditional instrument like guitar. This cultural experience is set in a cozy small Japanese house beside the brook near Heian shrine and Art museum area. I have been doing another Koto workshops with tea ceremony in Ginkakuji area. And the participants enjoyed our workshops very much. This is the URL of the workshop. https://www.airbnb.jp/experiences/189594 We started the new workshop that you can experience not only Koto but also Shamisen. Both populour instruments you can enjoy with tea ceremony at a more convenient location. Let’s spend an emotionally fulfilling time and stimulate all five of your senses!

Hi I'm Yumi. I’m a Koto music performer and composer. And I’m also tea ceremony master. I have founded a company that supports artists and craftsmen in Japanese traditional culture. When I was young, I managed an IT company. In those days I took the last train home every night. And my consolations were practicing the Koto harp and the tea ceremony. I was able to forget my problems and free my mind, which refreshed me. The more deeply I studied them, the more the rich world of Japanese culture enchanted me. I believe the traditional has the power to make people relax and feel happy.

We invite you to our house for our workshops. The small Japanese house along small beautiful river called "Shirakawa" has a nostalgic atmosphere, as if invited by an old acquaintance in Kyoto. Our house is near Higashiyama station of Subway Tozai line. Please take No.1 exit and it takes about 4 minutes walk from the exit. You can enjoy Japanese tradtional music and tea ceremony in a small group or private.
