Participants will be introduced to the area at the starting point at the main entrance of the Watkins Glen State Park. The scavenger hunt (optional) starts at this time, where participants take photos of a list of items found within the tour. As the guide, I can assist with taking pictures if needed. We will begin by traveling up the Gorge Path. Participants will be reminded of the difficulty level of the hike and the dangers of walking off of the trail. The path is approximately 2 miles with around 800 steps (stairs) along the trail. The tour will take around 2-3 hours. As the group progresses, information about the geology of the park will be explained as we pass examples along the way, as well as the history of when and how the park was built. At the halfway point of the gorge path, the group will reach a resting location where a water and light snacks will be provided. Then we will continue along the trail until we reach the top. At this point the tour will end, and participants can make their way back down the trail at their leisure.
I am a local resident of Watkins Glen for 20+ years. I have visited the park frequently during this time, and would like to share my expertise of the park with others. I am a future graduate of SUNY Fredonia majoring in Video Production with a minor in History, and have worked as a camp counselor for the past six years. These backgrounds have given me a unique view on the park well-suited to share with others. Along with providing the long and rich history of Watkins Glen State Park, I will be able to share current information about the area along with photo ideas at different landmarks in the park. Participants will experience a truly memorable adventure that they can share with their friends and family. I’ve included a photo / nature scavenger hunt tailored for younger participants, but optional to all ages!
Trail mix that contains almonds and nut products and alternative option of pretzels and/ or goldfish.
We will be at the Watkins Glen State Park. At the halfway point the guests will be able to see the park from unique angles that many guests of the park will not see. The photo op can include professional pictures taken by local photographers. These pictures should be requested in advance to enable time for set-up for the pictures.
Make sure you wear appropriate clothes and shoes for hiking. This trail is moderately difficult and includes 800 + stairs. Some paths have water and may be slippery.
