I am a writer of historical novel which based on Yedo cultural background. Yedo is an old name of Tokyo and was constructed by Tokugawa Shogunate in early 17th century. Yedo era lasts more than 260 years and whole nation was ruled by samurai. It was quite peaceful period and many unique cultures became in full bloom. Asakusa was a cultural epicenter at that time. As a novelist, I won a prize for a new figure and published a couple of novels about Yedo. While I am doing a lot of research for my novels, I became to know many interesting story about Yedo. Not only taking you to the spots, but I can tell you historical and cultural background of Tokyo. Through this, I hope to enrich your understanding of Japan and Japanese people.

I am an award-winning samurai novelist. In addition to doing a lot of research for my novels, I am also a licensed national guide in Japan who is certified to perform as a translator in English. Rather than work on a tour bus, I prefer small, intimate groups. My goal is to enrich visitors experience in Tokyo by helping them learn about the past, present, and future of Japan.

Masahiko is very easy going. Usually his guides are 10 and up I believe but he was kind enough to make sure our 5 year old enjoyed the tour also. We learned about the Japanese culture that we wouldn’t have learned on our own. It was a well spend day considering we only had one full day on Japan, it was a good first trip until we come back again. We can’t wait to explore more. Masahiko also gave us other options based on our interests. It was a great experience that my 13 year old son was enjoying so much he asked a lot of questions about the culture which meant that he was very comfortable with Masahiko. That speaks volumes. Thank you again for the experience.

A really informative tour. Our guide had excellent understanding of what he was showing us. I would have liked to have done this tour at the beginning of my trip to Japan as what we learned would have been very relevant and informative for Kyoto, or visits to any other temples . We loved the kitchen area at the end and bought some lovely Japanese kitchen knives which we got engraved for our daughters .
Thanks for a great tour

We learned so much from this tour - it really helped enrich our entire trip in Tokyo. We went to the Edo Tokyo museum before (but going after would be great, too) as knowledge of both really builds on eachother.
Masa was so nice and had a great understanding. Loved the warm buns (like a Japanese croissant) on that rainy morning.
Kappa bashi was interesting to walk through, but, we weren’t going to buy knives...of course, after we did a cooking class, we wanted to go back! If you are interested in kitchen ware...buy here! We also had lunch at Sometaro nearby, which was ideal (reasonable and cash only) to warm us up after a chilly rainy morning.
Thank you, Masa!
