The experience walks guests through the Hin Bus Depot creative hub and includes a carpentry workshop to build your own woodwork piece. We start off with a quick tour of Hin Bus Depot where the Woodsman Makerspace is located. Guests can expect to learn a bit about the local Penang arts scene in Georgetown to get a feel of the heritage area and even meet some of the friendly artisans who call the space home. After getting acquainted, we will head to the Woodsman Makerspace - where we will spend the first 45 minutes learning about the basic tools of the trade of woodworking. I will personally guide you through the ins-and-outs of carpentry to the best of my ability! Each guest will then design their own project to be built over the next 2 hours. Rather it is a small piece of furniture, art piece, or souvenir of your visit to Penang - I encourage all our guests to get creative and turn their ideas into reality. We will be providing all the required guidance, tools and materials needed for you to put together your own unique piece. If you are keen to get your hands dirty, learn woodworking, and have a story of your time while in Penang, this is the perfect experience for you.
I'm a self -taught carpenter who currently runs a woodworking maker space in Georgetown, Penang. I love working with children and enjoy good conversation. An avid traveller and explorer, I am always looking for an adventure (big or small). I am a proud Malaysian originally from the port side city of Klang and now call Penang home. What little I have, I am happy to share - and I invite you to join me in my cosy workshop to discover a little bit more about the world through carpentry.
This experience is a joint initiative between: 1) Native, a travel-based social enterprise redefining what it means to be a "native" person by creating opportunities for anyone to proudly share their inherent skills and stories -and- 2) The Woodsman Makerspace, a local community carpentry workshop located in the heart of the heritage area of Georgetown, Penang.

It is now a community art space that nurtures upcoming artisans and creatives in the small island town. The Woodsman Makerspace is located inside Hin Bus Depot. It is a cosy carpentry workshop with years in its walls - you'll be sure to find everything you need and more to make your woodworking come to life.
最多可有10位年满10周岁的参与者参加。 All participants MUST use fully covered shoes and suitable attire (tees and jeans recommended; cargo shorts acceptable too). Do bear in mind that the workshop will end up pretty dusty (sawdust) but we will be providing face masks…
