Make something beautiful with hot glass! Join us at the only publicly accessible glass making facility in the area. Our glassblowing studio is in the historic village of Davenport (just 10 minutes above Santa Cruz on Highway 1) where you'll learn to shape the 2,000 degree glass to create a beautiful object d'art. Options include making a paperweight, heart, angel wings, or small ring bowl. Or maybe there's something else you have in mind? This studio session allows you to select and apply colors, twist and turn the molten glass, then shape the materials according to your creative vision. This is a hands-on experience appropriate for individuals, couples, and families. All sessions include a brief talk on glass blowing and training on how to work with hot glass safely. Your glass creation will be ready to pick up the next day, or we can mail it to any address in the United States. Experiences are about 2 hours, so you'll still have plenty of time to explore nearby beaches and other activities in the beautiful Santa Cruz area.
My partner and co-host for this experience is Chris Johnson. Chris a professional glass artist specializing in what is known as off-hand glass blowing; he has been making art and teaching over 17 years. We love teaching and sharing the excitement of hot glass with others -- there is simply nothing more magical than the alchemy of glass!
All materials and tools are included. We do have a water cooler on sight as well.
This experience takes place inside our glassblowing hot shop which is located in the historic Lundberg Glassworks building in the village of Davenport, California. The building, which is made of solid cement from the now defunct Davenport cement plant, was built in 1903 and first housed a bakery. In 1973 the Lundberg’s moved in and created a glass studio. We took over the space in 2018.
