Decorative lighting is the jewellery to every home. Light-Wallah presents you with the opportunity to learn how to create a unique personalised table light made from handmade terracotta pottery. These characterful lamps provide a warm ambience ideal for projecting spots of charm to enhance any space. With this experience you will not only learn the processes of lighting design but also about the pottery craft of India and how your participation in the workshop will have a positive impact to their industry! A brief introduction to the project (while you enjoy a warm chai) should have you inspired to make your own personalised lamp. You'll jump right into making, starting with exploring the materials, colours, electrical fittings and overall structure of your light. After exploring and choosing your final designs you will carefully start to create your light. Practice your making skills by learning how to accurately mark, drill, file and assemble. You will also learn how to use specialist electrical tools to safely create a low voltage circuit with the universal USB connection (compatible in all countries).
I'm a British-Indian Designer, Artist and Innovator who explores new potentials of processes and materials into lighting designs. I completed a Master of Arts Degree from the Royal College of Art, School of Materials in 2011 where I developed a new material made solely from waste orange peel. I have been practicing as a Designer Maker for over 10 years, having initially trained as a Silversmith. Lighting has always been an integral part of my practice, I have a sensitive approach with connecting materials and processes into lighting design. I thrive from sharing my skills and and knowledge with others. I currently teach at the Royal College of Art and previously at other established UK universities and local communities and schools.
