This experience will take you on a tour of Edinburgh’s main sights and teach you key techniques to improve your landscape and portrait photography. Along the way we will climb Calton Hill and the Salisbury Crags with their jaw-dropping vistas all the way to the Medieval Old town and its mysterious alleys. By the end of the tour, you’ll have lovely memories, a history lesson about the city and beautiful photographs to take back home. We will start by going up Calton Hill with its lovely view over the Firth of Forth and the whole of Edinburgh. Once there, we will cover some a fundamental of manual photography: the exposure triangle, using some of fantastic scenes there to practice. From Calton Hill, we will walk towards the Parliament and Holyrood Palace and, weather permitting, climb up the Salisbury Crags that offers a panorama of the city. From the Salisbury Crags, we will cover how to correctly expose a photograph and have an interesting picture composition. From there, we will make our way down towards Canongate, theRoyal Mile and the Old Town, to take shots of the main sights (outside only) such as St Giles Cathedral, and Edinburgh Castle. We will then head down to the famous Grassmarket for some urban shooting. By the end of this experience you will have seen the most spectacular views Edinburgh has to offer and learned key skills to improve your photography.
Originally French/British, I fell in love with Scotland where I have now lived for over 10 years. I started photography as a way to show Scotland’s beautiful landscapes to family and friends abroad. I am now a semi-professional photographer with pictures featured in the UK and international press such as the Times, the Telegraph or BBC, the majority taken within Edinburgh. I am passionate about Edinburgh and its landscapes, from the medieval closes of the Old Town to the raw wilderness of the hills in and around the city. My knowledge of the local area and personal experience in becoming a photographer means that I understand the challenges (and rewards!) of starting out with photography. With this experience, I want to share my knowledge of the City to host a fun, active learning photography experience to remember!
