We host our event in our beloved neighborhood of Asahi-ku. Asahi-ku is a laid-back, genuine, non-touristy, beautiful part of Osaka. 1. We meet at the beautiful Sembayashi arcade. There is a Keihan train line stop in this arcade for easy meeting point. We will take a walk through this arcade, which hosts many shops and is a great way to see where local Asahi-ku residents do a lot of their daily shopping. This includes dashi shops, butchers, Korean food stands, fresh markets, clothing shops and even a bird store! 2. Next we will head over to a famous KAARAGE (fried chicken) street vendor in the Sembayashi arcade. We can sample the amazing karaage, and even watch him prepare the chicken right before us. 3. We head into one of the most unique and unknown little izakaya in Asahi-ku. The atmosphere here is so cool and intimate, there are only 3 tables and the menu is quite extensive. They prepare among many things (sushi, salads, pickled items, soups) the traditional and delicious KUSHIAGE to perfection. 4. We walk (15min) to our good friend Nikaya Masters' izakaya. Here we can sample any number of Nikaya’s amazing dishes and lots of great sake and shochu. Here you can talk with and enjoy the company of Nikaya who has been living in Asahi-Ku his whole life, with the comfort of having a bi-lingual host (my wife).
Hello! I'm pleased to introduce myself and my wife Junko as your resident experts on all delicious things in Osaka Japan. A little bit about myself; I have been working in the music industry as a tour manager and audio engineer for over 15 years. In this position I have travelled all over the world and experienced food and drink of all types. My family is in the restaurant industry so I have a deep passion for sharing my love of food with friends, family and like minded individuals. My wife, Junko is native to the Kansai region and has been living in Osaka for over 20 years. She is an amazing cook and has deep knowledge of traditional dishes that are specific to this region of Japan. Over time we have amassed an incredible wealth of knowledge concerning all things delicious in this incredible city of ours - OSAKA!
We will provide 1 appetizer at the first stop (small izakaya)
1 glass of premier sake at the final destination (Nikaya's izakaya).
This experience takes place in our beloved - NON-TOURISTY - neighborhood of Asahi-ku. We explore the Sembayashi arcade, a famous Kaarage stand, and local izakayas that offer extensive menus featuring Osakan items. The first izakaya offers incredible kushiage among many other items. The second is a izakaya owned by our friend Nikaya and here you can feel like family. **We will sub out a izakaya if it is closed (sometimes it happens randomly!)**
We will be walking between stops, bring comfortable footwear. Children under 13 not advised. You are here to sample food and drinks so be prepared to have lots of good food! Bring cash, no credit cards taken at these izakayas. Tell us in advance of any special requests or dietary needs!
