The Carriage is set on tracks where the original line ran through Ullock on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, with the river Marron running below. Welcome to Highside a delightful cottage set in a secluded location overlooking the tranquil village of Lorton. Dating back to 1695 (as engraved on the fireplace in the kitchen), the cottage retains many original features but has been sympathetically modernised. The cottage resides within our farm, Terrace Farm with open countryside and panoramic views of the Lakeland Fells and numerous Wainwrights including Melbreak, Whiteside, Low Fell, Hopegillhead to name but a few.

Set in two acres of mature trees, gardens and river frontage, with lots of wildlife.

Superb views of the surrounding countryside, Irish Sea and the Lake District Mountains. This accommodation is fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Ideally located for walking, mountain biking, kayaking, golf or walks on the beach all within a short drive.

Fern Cottage is far enough off the tourist track that you can avoid the crowds, but also offers easy access to best of the the Western Fells. We’re just a 10 minute drive from both Loweswater and Ennerdale Water. And the award winning Ennerdale Brewery and Restaurant is just 10 minutes walk down a quiet country lane.
