Craigiehall Temple (historic property built 1759)

Make you trip to Edinburgh truly memorable with a stay at Craigiehall Temple. Built in 1759 and situated in its own grounds on a former part of the Craigiehall Estate, it's Grade A listed for its stunning portico displaying the arms of the 1st Marquess of Annandale. A plaque on the wall carries a quote from Horace: "Dum Iicet in rebus jucundis vive beatus", "Live happy while you can among joyful things". We hope that a stay at the Temple will deliver this experience and stay true to this vision.

It has generous reception space (the house has been described as swallowing you up) including a grand drawing room with antique furniture & a large open fire, a huge dining kitchen with views over the Forth & a cosy TV room with a large sofa ideal for curling up and watching films. Beautiful, quaint 16th century cottage, lovingly restored as a dedicated holiday cottage. Located in the heart of an old farm guests can enjoy peace and quiet, beautiful views and owners on site. The cottage has benefited from a complete refurb in 2020 and an enclosed private garden. We sit directly on the river bank and walkway to Haddington and East Linton and a bus link directly into Edinburgh in 45 mins. We are around 15mins drive to the coast and North Berwick.

Whether you want to be active or just relax, Howden Cottage is a great base to enjoy all the delights of East Lothian. If you want a trip to Edinburgh it's about a 45 minute drive or you can drive to the local station - about 8 minutes away and take the train which is 25 minutes. Parking at the station is free.
