“Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, Gastown grew from a single tavern founded by John ‘Gassy Jack’ Deighton back in 1867. Today, the district retains its historic charm and independent spirit. Victorian architecture houses a thriving fashion scene, impeccably curated décor boutiques, one-of-a-kind galleries and some of the best culinary fare in Vancouver. It’s a gathering place for stylish locals and an ideal neighbourhood to explore on foot. Gastown is a neighbourhood that seamlessly combines old with new, history with the way forward. An essential part of Vancouver’s history, a visit to Gastown should include a stroll along Water Street, where you’ll find a picture-perfect collection of old buildings, cobblestones, the Steam Clock, and vintage lampposts. Continue to the end of Water Street to visit a statue of the man who started it all, Gassy Jack Deighton. Architecture and history buffs can take organized walking tours of the area to further explore. Get a bird’s eye view of the area from the Vancouver Lookout, which rises 167-metres (548-feet) to give visitors a 360˚ panorama of the city.”

“The water taxi itself is already amazing. In the 1970’s, Granville Island began its successful transformation from an industrial wasteland to one of the most beloved public spaces in Vancouver. As Vancouver’s premier artistic and cultural hub, located in an urban, waterfront location and steeped in a rich industrial and maritime heritage, this unique destination attracts millions of visitors each year from Vancouver and around the world. The charm of Granville Island lies in its unexpected mix of uses. The famous Public Market, open daily from 9 am to 7 pm, is home to more than 50 independent food purveyors and contributes to the Island’s appeal as a renowned culinary destination. In the Net Loft Shops and Railspur District, many of Canada’s best artists and designers can be found. “Yaletown was once the Western terminus for the Canadian Pacific Railway, but the area’s more recent reinvention dates back to 1986 when the waterfront along the north of False Creek was host to many of the venues when Vancouver hosted the World’s Fair. Since then that land, along with the warehouse district adjoining it have been transformed into one of the city’s chicest neighbourhoods, filled with residential loft spaces, sidewalk cafes, cool restaurants, unique shopping, and leafy parks. Sitting along the south side of the downtown Vancouver peninsula, Yaletown is bordered by Homer Street, Robson Street and False Creek.”

“I don't know how many dozens of beers this place has on tap (50+). Great rotating beer lists, loads of locals to try, and very good food mixed with friendly service. The renovated former salt building is a great adaptive reuse of an iconic architectural building in an area that's largely been de-industrialized. This is a good place for kids, too.”

“Watch the trains go by in a Heritage building with 50 taps of local & imported craft beers, plus a menu of locally sourced food. Since summer 2006, owners Raya Audet & Nigel Springthorpe have been quietly turning the Alibi Room into the place for local craft beer on tap. We have become a true Free House, pouring guest beers from the lower mainland, across the province and beyond. Head chef Greg Armstrong has added an understated sophistication to our very accessible menu. The menu reflects a strong desire to provide familiar, comforting dishes with an emphasis on quality ingredients. All of our meat, fish & poultry are sourced locally, ocean friendly, naturally raised and free run.”
