Stayed here for two nights over the Valentines weekend with my girlfriend, whose birthday it was. We had a lovely time and Karen was a great host - she even gave us some of her delicious homemade cookies! The old bakery is oozing with character and charm, and was perfect for a romantic getaway in the countryside. It's within easy reach of Bath too (around 20 minutes drive) for days out. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time at The Old Bakery and would definitely recommend it to our friends. Charming old building in a picturesque spot in the Mendip Hills. Our stay was comfortable and quiet: exactly what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of London. The flat itself was decorated beautifully. Karen was a lovely and accommodating host who gave perfect directions. And an outstanding cook (I'm still dreaming of that perfect bacon!). Karen also offered excellent local knowledge of the surrounding area in Wells as well as historical information about Chewton Mendip. The pub in the village boasts an unbeatable fish and chips served by the jolliest landlord in Somerset. The nearby farm shop in Farrington has won serval accolades, and deservedly so. We stocked up on delicious homemade pickles and chutneys and even braved some locally-reared alpaca steaks! Relaxing country walks right on the door step. It was a perfect romantic trip. We had the most wonderful time at Karen's property. The welcome we received was wonderful and when we were shown round the property we were blown away by how beautiful it was. The decor was stunning and everything from the bedding to the towels were completely luxurious. The location is superb. We will certainly be back. We would not change a single thing about the property or our visit. Perfect.

The Old Bakery in Chewton Mendip (30 minutes from Bath) is lovely. The hosts Karen and John were very welcoming. The Bakery is restored and has a wonderful dining-living room, well stocked kitchen, pretty reading alcove, narrow stairs up to a nice bedroom with a step-down en suit bathroom. There is also a darling patio in the front with climbing flowering vines. Karen has done an excellent job attending to the details. She left a carafe of whole milk in the fridge, a container of delicious dark chocolate and almond cookies on the counter, fresh star gazers in a vase on the coffee table, many oversize plush towels in the bathroom, Frette bed linens, Cole and Lewis bath products (delightful), an extensive laminated book of thinks to do and house rules, an information box of brochures of local activities in the area as well as two Flat screen LCD T.V's in the main room and bedroom. Karen and John are very friendly and informative. My husband and I definitely recommend you stay at The Old Bakery for a self-catering option or their B&B next door when you are in the area. The charming town of Wells is 10 minutes away, Mells 20 minutes and Farrington just 5 minutes away. This countryside is idyllic.
